family organisation tips

Helping busy mums simplify and organise family life

If you’re constantly juggling school runs, after-school activities, work, meals, chores, appointments, and everything else family life throws at you, it can often feel like you’re spinning plates all day long.

You might start the week feeling organised, only to find yourself completely overwhelmed a few days later, when your house is messy again, you’ve forgotten an appointment, dinner needs planning, and your to-do list is getting longer – rather than shorter.

I’ve been there too.

I’ve always been an organised person, but becoming a mum put that organisation to the test.

With two energetic boys, I quickly discovered that keeping a home and family organised isn’t about having a perfectly tidy house, or a beautifully colour-coded schedule, as real family life doesn’t work like that.

Instead, there are toys on the floor, school bags that don’t make it to their proper place, toothpaste lids left off, and a bathroom that somehow looks like it hasn’t been cleaned, despite being cleaned less than an hour ago.

Sound familiar?

After becoming a mum I realised that I didn’t need more complicated systems. I needed simple systems that actually worked with family life, systems that saved time, reduced the number of things I had to remember, and made everyday mum life easier.

So I started trying different ways to organise our home, plan our family life, and create routines that worked for us.

And the difference was noticeable.

Life wasn’t suddenly perfectly organised (far from it!), but it felt less chaotic and much more manageable.

That’s why I created Organised Mum Life.

I want to share the simple things that have helped me, so you can find ideas that work for your family too.

Organisation without perfection

I don’t believe being organised means having a spotless home, a perfect routine, or a planner filled in weeks in advance.

Being organised is about making life easier

Sometimes that means using pretty containers and labels. Sometimes it means using something you already have, and sometimes a cardboard box is absolutely good enough!

The best organising system is the one that works for you, your family, your home, and the amount of time and energy you actually have.

That’s the approach you’ll find throughout Organised Mum Life.

Decluttering

Practical decluttering tips to help you tackle clutter without feeling overwhelmed, because a home with less to manage makes family life easier.

That’s not what you’ll find here.

I’m much more interested in what actually works when you have kids, a busy schedule, and limited time and energy.

You’ll find:

Simple over complicated.

Practical systems that don’t require hours of preparation or maintenance.

Realistic over perfect.

Ideas designed for real family homes, not picture-perfect ones.

Progress over perfection.

You don’t need to organise everything at once. Small changes can make a big difference.

Less mental load.

The goal isn’t simply a tidier home. It’s having fewer things to remember, decide, and deal with every day.

Because being organised isn’t about becoming a different person.

Organised Mum Life blog

Before starting Organised Mum Life I worked in marketing for more than 20 years. In 2017 I moved from Australia to the UK, where I now live with my family.

I’m a mum to two very active boys, which has given me plenty of real-life opportunities to test whether an organisation system actually works.

When I’m not trying to keep up with family life, you’ll find me baking something new, reading, eating something delicious, or drinking far too much coffee.
